5. Drive up to Cathedral Ledge

Visiting Cathedral Ledge is another absolute must! While you can view the face of this iconic 700 foot granite cliff from North Conway, it’s totally worth taking the 1 mile drive up to the top of the ledge.

Once on the top, there’s a short hiking trail that will lead you to a fenced in area where you can see stunning views of the Saco River Valley and White Mountains.

Cathedral Ledge is a hotspot for rock climbers of all levels. If you’re lucky, you may be able to witness some climbers making their way up the vertical terrain. I don’t know about you, but the thought of climbing up the face of that cliff is pretty terrifying to me.

6. Visit a Road Side Farm Stand for Jam

Not far from Cathedral Ledge is the cutest little drive up self-serve roadside farm stand I’ve ever seen.

Schartner Farms’ North Drive Up works on the honor system and they have fabulous homemade jam you conveniently pick up at the drive up. We found this adorable farm stand a few years back and since then we visit every time we’re in the area. Strawberry is their signature flavor but I think my favorite is the blueberry. The best thing is that this little drive up is open year round

7. Explore Diana’s Baths

North Conway and the surrounding areas have all sorts of swimming holes which are perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day. Diana’s Baths is a popular one that we love to visit.

Located about 2.5 miles from the village, in the town of Bartlett, Diana’s Baths is a series of small waterfalls with crystal clear water perfect for a refreshing dip.

Take a short, easy hike to get to this scenic spot where you can explore the cascades, wade in the pools, and have a picnic while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The trail is less than a mile and relatively flat and accessible. Don’t forget to bring small bills to pay the $5 recreation fee.

8. Swim at Echo Lake State Park

Situated at the foot of Cathedral Ledge is Echo Lake State Park. This scenic spot is perfect for outdoor activities like swimming, kayaking, and picnicking. Its calm waters are a refreshing escape on a warm summer day and the scenery of the surrounding cliffs is simply breathtaking.

The park also has several hiking trails, including one that leads to the summit of Cathedral Ledge if you’d rather take the long way up. If you’re looking for a tranquil place to relax and cool off, Echo Lake is a great choice.

9. Float Along the Saco River

Another great way to cool off is to take a relaxing float down the Saco River. Saco Bound and Saco River Tubing are two local outfitters where you can rent a tube, kayak or canoe. Each offer several trip options that vary in duration and location. We’ve used Saco Bound when we went and chose the 3 hour trip which ended at Weston’s Beach where we got shuttled back to our car.

Typically in the summer months the current is slow and water depth is about 3 feet but it’s best to always check river & weather conditions before your trip. Heavy rain can make the river much deeper and dangerous.

One year we went tubing, the water was extremely low and slow. In some spots we actually had to get out and walk our tube. The next summer was very rainy and the water was extremely high and fast moving causing unsafe conditions. Before going, be sure to check conditions with an outfitter or online.

10. Drive the Scenic Kancamagus Highway

Kancamagus Highway

The Kancamagus Highway, or “The Kanc”, as locals call it, is an iconic scenic drive that showcases the natural beauty of the White Mountains. This 34.5-mile stretch of road offers breathtaking views, especially during the fall foliage season. Along the way you can stop at overlooks, hiking trails, and waterfalls to experience the stunning landscape.

12. Have a Brew at Moat Mountain SmokeHouse and Brewing Co.

Moat Mountain SmokeHouse and Brewing Co. is a local favorite for craft beer and classic pub fare. Located in an old barn, this brewery and restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with a wide selection of house-brewed beers.

They have a very extensive menu with options that will please just about everyone. We started out with the warm soft Barvarian Pretzel with their house made beer cheese and it was great!

The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen gallery, located on White Mountain Highway, is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates beautiful artisan works.

This gallery showcases a stunning collection of handcrafted works from some of the finest artisans in the area. I was really amazed when I walked in and saw all the beautiful collections on display. Each piece, whether it be pottery, jewelry, blown glass, or textiles, reflected the skill and creativity of these craftsmen.

18. Visit a Gift Shop inside a Covered Bridge

Any time I’m in the North Conway area, I like to take a drive over to the Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe on Rt. 302 in nearby Glen, NH. This little Gift Shoppe is so quaint and charming and it’s inside a real covered bridge!

The historic Bartlett Covered Bridge was originally built in 1851 and spans the Saco River. In 1965, the bridge and surrounding land was sold and in 1990 a replica of the bridge was built and turned into a Gift Shoppe, offering visitors a unique shopping experience.

20. Hike Black Cap Hiking Trail

The Black Cap Trail is a 2.4-mile round trip hike located near North Conway. This is an excellent choice if you are looking to experience some gorgeous views but don’t want a hike that will take all day. The Black Cap trail is considered moderate difficulty with an elevation gain of 700 ft.

The trailhead for Black Cap is located on Hurricane Mountain Road, which can be accessed from Route 16 in North Conway. Be aware that Hurricane Mountain Road is steep and narrow, so drive carefully. There is a small parking area at the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and during peak foliage season.
